How to import CONSORTIUM saved games

Post by GreatBird » Fri Jul 21, 2017 9:01 pm

Step 1) Locate the EndGame_# files found in your Consortium/SAVE folder.

Step 2) Make a new folder in Consortium The Tower/thetower/Saved called "c1saves" (no quotes)

Step 3) Copy any EndGame saved game files into c1saves.

Step 4) Run game normally and after selecting "Access Quantum Stream", you should be able to choose to import your universe...
Do, or do not. There is no try.

Program to find and copy the saves:
FindConsortiumSaves.zip
Just the program
(5.49 KiB) Downloaded 30 times

Source for program:
FindConsortiumSavesSource.zip
C# source code
(55.82 KiB) Downloaded 17 times

It shows the directories it finds (using registry, VDF, and ACF to find GOG and Steam saves). To copy, press "y" and it will find The Tower, do the copy, and show the files it copied. It will then wait for you to press a key again before automatically closing.

Beware: this program doesn't overwrite anything. If you run it repeatedly, you'll add the number of saves you have into c1saves again and again (much duplicate, not good). Might want to manually purge the "Consortium The Tower\thetower\Saved\c1saves" directory periodically before importing again

I attached the source code too to help get the save import functions working sooner rather than later. Except VDF/ACF processing (I use fairly simple tokenizer + reader), it's pretty straight forward.

It's clear saves need better names so we know what we're getting in CG2. Is the importing interface going to be improved in the near future or should I work on a GUI version of my program that gives more information and control over the importing process?

Ford, it will be awhile until the importing interface is given another pass...

Here's a GUI version of the program. It hasn't been very thoroughly tested and I at least want to put an icon on it before calling it done. Making it available for feedback. Extract before running. System needs Consortium and Consortium: The Tower installed for it to work correctly (no way to choose manual paths right now).

Edit: Attached executable and source code. Also found a minor bug with GoG and fixed it (appid argument was ignored, it was fixed to only work with Consoritum).

Just for anyone that happens to find this thread - importing Universes from CONSORTIUM is now just a matter of having CONSORTIUM installed and starting a new universe in The Tower. Any end-games from CONSORTIUM will be found automatically.
